The Coaching Problem With Fixed Technique Practice
Golf practice is often biased towards rewarding visible repeatability. A player repeats the same stroke, swing, alignment station, launch monitor numbers, or technical rehearsal until the movement looks more consistent.
That process has value when the player needs clarity, confidence, or a simpler coordination pattern. The limitation appears when the practice environment removes the information the player needs during play.
A golfer on the course does not repeat one neutral problem. Each shot changes the ground, target, lie, wind, distance, visual information, scoring context, and emotional demand. A technically organized swing from a flat mat might lose function from a downhill lie. A tidy putting stroke on a straight putt might lose function when slope, pace, start line, and entry speed must be coordinated together.
The issue is not repetition itself, but what the player repeats.
A coach who stabilizes technique asks the player to repeat one movement form. A coach who stabilizes performance principles asks the player to repeat the relationship that solves the shot.
That distinction changes the purpose of practice.
What It Means To Stabilize Performance Principles
To stabilize performance principles means to help a player preserve the functional relationship that creates the desired outcome across changing constraints.
In putting, the stable principle might be matching read, start line, pace, and entry speed. The stroke will vary across flat, uphill, downhill, and sidehill putts because the task changes.
In full swing, the stable principle might be adapting balance, low point, strike, start direction, and trajectory to the ground. The setup, pressure pattern, swing length, or finish may change because slope changes the ball-flight problem.

Step 1. Define The Performance Principle
Start by naming the relationship the player must learn.
